JANUARY 2015 // INSPIRATION
This is just a fun post to talk about some of my favorite things and some newfound obsessions that I have had recently.
ANTLERS / TAXIDERMY / SPECIMEN
This has always been a strange penchant of mine since I was very young. I love preserved specimen because it is fascinating to look at and I always think about what that animal (or part of an animal) was like when it was alive. Plus I love how it adds to my home decorating (I cringe at saying this, but it is painfully true. I love decorating my house with dead things). I have some insects and antlers that I love very much.
upcoming thing on my wishlist: octopus in a jar
PALLETS + OTHER DIY MATERIALS
I am making a coffee table in my daydreams. That is all.
CRYSTAL HEAD VODKA
I discovered these amazing bottles a few months back, and it is still haunting me how much I want one. Supposedly it is expensive because it is quality vodka, but let’s be real. Everyone is buying it for the bottle.
CHANNELING MY INNER WISDOM + MINIMALISM
I have been spending the last handful of months challenging myself to abandon things I do not need. As someone who grew up in a household where things weren’t simply “thrown away,” this has been amazingly refreshing for me. I have found that I am more productive and sane when I own and am surrounded by very few things. It also allows me to respect and love what I do have, as well as buy for quality. I have also been trying to be back in touch with myself spiritually and mentally. That’s as far as I will go describing that; I prefer to keep my personal life private.
QUALITY FOOTWEAR + D’ORSAYS
Okay, first of all… D’Orsay flats are fucking incredible. The pointed toe, the lightweight design, the simplicity. These shoes are my calling. I loved these buckled ones that I posted – you may have seen them on my IG – but sadly they are far out of my budget. Second of all, they are named after my favorite art museum in Paris (DEGAS, MONET, MATISSE, it goes on), so it makes them even more perfect.
One thing I have learned about myself in the past year is that I buy footwear for quality. I walk constantly every day and my shoes wear out fast. I also have expensive taste in shoes to begin with. I rarely wear shoes that are cheaply-crafted and bad for my feet.
PEANUTS COMICS WITH SMITHS LYRICS
A couple weeks ago, I read THIS ARTICLE from HelloGiggles (which I read daily) about a blog that incorporates Smiths lyrics into Peanuts comics. Relevant and too funny. This is just for fun.
FINALLY PINPOINTING MY PERSONAL STYLE
My personal style is a constantly-moving target. I decided to get to the fundamentals and make a list of things that I am always drawn to, including: black, skinny jeans, geometric-cut coats and dresses, good, simple shoes, hats, neutral colors, high socks, bags with storage space, leather, and simple jewelry. I took this even further and made a pinboard of outfits that I liked on different style icons. I have found my style to be a frustrating collision between Alexa Chung and Audrey Hepburn.
Perhaps someday I will figure it out. I know my style can seem all over the place, especially in my content, but I don’t think I have to apologize for that. +
